Things Happen I 11/14

A/N: Guys, whyyyyyyyyyy, why do you all have to be so awesome and great and make me want to do things for you that I will get yelled at for later. WHYYYYYYY???????????? Okay, so seeing as how I am awful for not putting in some Eunhae. Here. Here. Take this as my apology. Two chapters today

Eunhyuk knew it was late, but it wasn’t late enough for Hankyung and Yesung to be back at the dorm. Eunhyuk hadn’t seen Hankyung since he had dragged Heechul away after their last class. He had noticed the nasty looks the two had been giving each other. He’d have to warn Sungmin. Yesung was with Wookie somewhere, so he had the dorm to himself for a while.

He stretched and took the stairs two at a time. He danced his way to the door feeling happy and free for some reason. He almost missed the person sitting down to the side of his door. When he saw who it was his light mood vanished. He looked away as his heart twisted painfully.

It was Donghae. He was leaning against the door, his head falling to the side. Eunhyuk didn’t need anyone to tell him that Donghae had too much to drink. Eunhyuk looked at him. He couldn’t help himself. He leaned down and pushed Donghae’s hair out of his face.

He almost cried at the familiarity of it all. He remembered the feel of that hair exactly. He could remember running his fingers over those cheeks and that face. He kneeled down in front of Donghae and shook him.

“Donghae? Are you okay?” He asked.

Donghae didn’t move. Eunhyuk sighed. He stood up and pulled Donghae into the dorm with him. He knew he shouldn’t, but seeing Donghae so vulnerably had touched something in his heart. He knew he wasn’t over Donghae. It would be stupid to think so. He had just built immunity to being around him, but now he had Donghae in his bed again.

He sat down on the chair as far from the bed as he could. He tried to concentrate on anything and couldn’t. Seeing Donghae reminded him of that night when Donghae stayed over, it reminded him of their games, of their laughter. He knew it was no use. He didn’t even question it when he walked over and sat down next to Donghae.

He leaned down so that his face was next to Donghae’s. There was no Yoona here. If he closed his eyes, it would be just like old times. He watched Donghae sleep.

“Donghae.” He said softly.

Eunhyuk sat up. He moved away as Donghae opened his eyes.

“Eunhyuk?” Donghae asked. “Hyukkie, is that you? Where am I?”

Eunhyuk looked away. He hadn’t heard Donghae call him that in so long. It was sweet music and at the same time it was a stab to his heart. He hadn’t heard that tone of voice either. It was too easy to fall into that voice.

“You’re in my dorm. You were outside, drunk. I brought you inside.”

“Oh, is that why everything is moving?” Donghae asked in that innocent voice that always got to Eunhyuk.

“That’s right. Go to sleep.”

“I can’t.” Donghae said. “I haven’t seen you in so long. I know this is a dream. I don’t want to wake up yet. Can you come here? I want to see your face.”

Eunhyuk bit his lip. He was stupid. He knew he was stupid. He should stay and be safe. He should keep his walls. He should stay away, but how could he say no when Donghae was there, when Donghae needed him.

“Why do you want me with you? You have Yoona.” He said going over anyway.

“Hyukkie, I don’t have Yoona. I don’t even like Yoona. I can’t stand her. I’m in pain for a good part of the day because I’m with her. I want you. I love you.”

Eunhyuk blinked. He swallowed past the lump in his throat. Donghae’s hand was on his face. He leaned into the touch and closed his eyes.

“Don’t lie.” He whispered.

“Eunhyuk, I wouldn’t lie about you. I love you, Hyukkie. I need you. Don’t you love me?” Donghae asked in the same half asleep voice.

Eunhyuk’s hands trembled as he reached to take Donghae’s face in them. He wiped away the tears that rolled down Donghae’s face. He waited patiently as Donghae did the same for him.

“Donghae.” He whispered. “Say it again.”

“Say that you love me.”

He waited, but Donghae didn’t say anything. He opened his eyes and saw that Donghae was looking at him.

“I’m sorry. I…I don’t know if I can.”

“Why not?” Eunhyuk asked his voice thick with emotion.

“I don’t know. Yoona said that if I told you she would tell everyone that her sister is pregnant and that it was my cousin’s fault, you know the idiot. And I can’t tell you and she likes you and she wants to see you cry. And I don’t know Eunhyuk she’s so mean to everyone. She even said that she would tell people I got her pregnant. I don’t know what you did, but she seems pretty stuck on making you cry. So, I don’t know if I can tell you that I love you.” Donghae said his words slurring together.

Eunhyuk took his face roughly. He pulled Donghae’s face up so that they were looking at each other. He watched Donghae looking for something, anything. He didn’t know what. All he knew was that his heart was practically jumping with joy and his brain was yelling at him.

“Donghae, say that again. Yoona did what?”

“Yoona made me leave you. Can we please not talk anymore? I just want to kiss you right now. I haven’t gotten to do that in a long time. I haven’t had a dream this realistic either.”

Donghae leaned forward and into Eunhyuk’s arms. Eunhyuk pulled him close.

“Donghae, I love you.” He whispered.

“I know you do. But, you’ve been really mean to me. I got punched for you.” Donghae mumbled. “I wish I didn’t have to wake up. I don’t want to go back to Yoona. I don’t want to watch you with Hankyung. I don’t like Sungmin. And Yesung touches you too much.”

“Sh,” Eunhyuk mumbled. “Sleep now.”

“Will you be here in the morning?” Donghae asked.

Eunhyuk didn’t know how to answer. He looked at Donghae and saw the ring in his hand. He reached for it and realized what it was. It was the silver ring with his name on it. He slipped it off Donghae’s finger. How had he not noticed the ring? How had he missed that? How long had Donghae been wearing it?

He looked at it then at Donghae. Yoona. She was still the problem. Always her.

But, he didn’t care, not then. He had Donghae. He kissed the top of Donghae’s head and slipped on the ring. For now, he had Donghae.
Donghae rolled over and right onto the floor. He sat up and blinked as the light hit his sensitive eye.

“I see the princess is up.”

He groaned. “Heechul I have no time for you today. I have a headache and I don’t really want to hear you talk. Leave me alone.”

“Is that how you talk to my boyfriend? I’m going to have to stay over more often and watch you.”

“Hankyung?” Donghae asked finally getting up and turning.

Hankyung was sitting in a chair as far from the bed as possible. He looked around and knew immediately where he was. He knew the bed, the window and even the scratch on the wall. This was Eunhyuk’s room.

“Where the hell am I?” He asked anyway.

“I kidnapped you and locked you away in a tower. Your prince has to come and save you now.” Hankyung said rolling his eyes. “Where do you think you are? You should recognize this place. You’ve been here often enough.”

“I know that.” He said looking away. “How did I get here?”

“You were trashed and Eunhyuk saw you outside. He couldn’t leave you there for some reason and brought you inside. Then, I came home and made him sleep in my room. I need to talk to you Donghae. You said some very interesting things last night and I would like to know how true they are.”

Donghae tensed. What happened last night? He knew he had been so tired of Yoona. He was tired of everything and he’d taken his chance when Heechul left for that small second. He’d gotten drunk. That much he did remember. He’d wandered around and he knew his intention had been to get to Eunhyuk. It was always to get to Eunhyuk, but after that he didn’t remember anything.

“What exactly did I say?” He asked afraid of the answer.

Hankyung watched him. It was the same look he always gave him, that calculated searching look, as if he were looking for something that he hadn’t found yet. Donghae didn’t look away. Whatever damage he had done last night, he had to fix. There was no one here to defend him, no one to make up his excuses. This was his problem now. He watched Hankyung walk to the door and lock it.

“Donghae, I need to apologize.”

Donghae’s mouth dropped open. He almost fell over again as he looked at Hankyung. The older man came to stand in front of him. He leaned down until the two were at eye level.

“You should have told me. I would have helped. And I’m sorry I ever hit you, but you have to admit that it was pretty stupid of you to kiss Heechul. I wasn’t doing anything wrong. Eunhyuk saw you with Yoona and started crying. We were sitting there and then you showed up. Obviously he didn’t want you to see what you did to him so I covered for him. That was all. I don’t want to take your boyfriend. I have my own.”

Donghae frowned. It took him a second to realize that something was off. Hankyung shouldn’t be apologizing. Hankyung should be yelling at him, shoving him out the door. What exactly had he said last night?

“I don’t understand.” Donghae started slowly. “I…I don’t care why you were with Eunhyuk.”

Donghae looked up. Hankyung was smirking. He made a mental note to remind Heechul that teaching other people to be annoying wasn’t a good thing.

“Why would I lie? You saw everything. I have…I have Yoona.”

But, Donghae knew it was no use. He didn’t even believe himself. He didn’t sound happy. He didn’t sound sincere. He didn’t even sound like he was trying anymore. He saw Hankyung with that same expression again, the searching one, the one that made Donghae wary.

“Donghae, you pretty much told me everything last night, about your father, about your cousin, about Yoona and her sister. There’s no point in pretending anymore. I know. I won’t tell, but I know.”

Donghae’s mouth dropped open for the second time that morning. He blinked and Hankyung was there suddenly. He didn’t know what to say. His whole body was shaking, whether from relief or terror, he didn’t know. All he knew was that he suddenly couldn’t take it anymore. He reached forward blindly and Hankyung held him. He didn’t cry. His tears were too used up. He didn’t bother with that. He just shook uncontrollably and tried to calm down as Hankyung murmured reassurance.

“I don’t know what to do.” He said finally.

“Don’t worry. I’ll help you. I promise I’ll help.” Hankyung told him.

“No, you can’t help. Wookie and Heechul couldn’t help.” Donghae said hopeless.

Hankyung pulled away. He looked at Donghae and shook his head.

“You F4 boys are all the same. I don’t understand how we fell for you. Money doesn’t buy everything Donghae. And just because Heechul and Wookie couldn’t do it, doesn’t mean I don’t have my own way of doing things.”

“What are you going to do?” Donghae asked not daring to hope.

“Come, I’ll take you out for breakfast. You aren’t holding up as well as you make everyone think. You look like you haven’t slept in years and you lost weight. If you stay with Yoona any longer there won’t be any Donghae left. I’ll tell you what we’re going to do in the car.”

Donghae nodded and followed Hankyung to the door. He stopped when Hankyung stopped, one hand poised over the doorknob.

“I’m sorry.”

Donghae nodded. “I’m sorry too. I knew I shouldn’t have done what I did.”

“You had no choice really. I’m sorry you have to put up with Yoona. I’m sorry that you had to watch Eunhyuk like that. He really is just upset more than anything. He wouldn’t eat at first. He just sat there and looked at the TV screen. He didn’t even turn the TV on. He moped around. He cried. He isn’t even back to being himself yet, but he did make great progress when he met Sungmin.”

“How is Sungmin?” Donghae asked carefully.

“They’re just friends. He’s still pretty much in love with you. Why else do you think he brought you here and didn’t leave you out there?”

Donghae smiled. “Is he here?”

“Probably not.” Hankyung answered opening the door.

Donghae let him walk out first. He felt better, not perfect, but better. Hankyung knew and he hadn’t overreacted. That gave him hope again. Hope that maybe Eunhyuk would understand.

“Oh, Eunhyuk. Hello.” He heard Hankyung say. “I’m going out to breakfast, want to come?”

No. Donghae half ran outside. Hankyung couldn’t possibly do this to him.

“Um, no actually, it’s okay. I’m going to eat with Yesung and Wookie and Heechul. But, Sungmin would love to go with you. I’ll distract him though. Have fun.”

Donghae’s hands started shaking again. He swallowed past the lump in his throat. Eunhyuk looked great. The dead look in his eyes was gone. He looked like he’d just woken up from a great sleep. He watched him carelessly; sure that Eunhyuk wouldn’t look at him. He was wrong.

Hankyung stepped out and Eunhyuk looked up. Their eyes met and Donghae couldn’t look away.

“Thank you.” He said.

He watched the blush on Eunhyuk’s face and didn’t know what to do. Was it possible that Hankyung was right?

“I…I made…this for you.” Eunhyuk said shoving something into Donghae’s hands and running out.

Donghae watched him leave. He looked down at his hands. He was holding a small box. Inside was a necklace with his name on it. He could still see the store name on the box and he smiled.

He didn’t remember that Eunhyuk wasn’t supposed to know.
